Save a Life Rik Basra Campaign – Message from Kas Basra

A personal message and call to action from Kas Basra. Kas is Rik’s wife and her whoe world changed when Rik contracted acute myeloid leukaemia (AML a form of blood cancer) some 3 years ago.

This devastating news was compounded when Rik was advised that the register of potential stem cell donors was undersubscribed in the UK and to make matters worse registered “Asian” stem cell donors made up only 4% of already low numbers. Rik’s donor search eventually became international and thankfully a donor match was found in Germany. Rik now has a fighting chance to overcome this awful disease.

Kas is appealing to the Asian community to support a forthcoming stem cell donor registration event being organised by the Rik Basra Campaign.

Asians only stand a 40% chance of finding a donor due to the low number of registered Asian donors on the Anthony Nolan Register. You can help us change this statistic.

If you are between 18 and 40 and in good health then please come along to The Nishkam Centre, Soho Rd, Handsworth, Birmingham between 11am and 5pm on Sunday 25 March 2012 and register by giving a saliva sample.

You could be the one who saves a life.
